The Hartsville Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. was established and chartered on December 2, 1979, with 14 charter members from Darlington and Chesterfield counties.
Our Regional Director, Norma Sermon of Newburn, NC. The14 charter members were: Dorothy Arnold, Willie Mae Bess, Cassie Brewer, Patricia Burch, Ivie Fulton, Loretta Hamielle, Dorothy Heatley, Gail Mack, Genova McFadden, Lenora McPherson, Brandolyn Pinkston, Lovis Thomas, Lucille Thompson, & Arlene Williams. Of these members, six have transitioned to the Omega Omega Chapter: Dorothy Arnold, Cassie Brewer, Ivie Fulton, Lenora McPherson, Lucille Thompson, & Arlene Williams.
Presidents of our chapter were: Lucille Thompson, Brandolyn Pinkston, Ivie Fulton, Dorothy Heatley, Angela Grooms, Valerie Haynesworth, Carolyn Marine, Carol Harris Campbell, Gedell Days, and Brenda Harrington.
We have been and still are highly dedicated to public service. Our activities and involvement include contributions to charitable organizations and families in distress, supporting senior citizens, and youth in our service area. We have established partnerships with community organizations and held workshops for the chapter and community.
We are proud of our earlier accomplishments: beginning with our Talent Extravaganza and Art Exhibition, featuring talented artists in the community. We support the local Arts Council and the SC Arts Commission. The following performers were:

- Coker University School of Dance
- Evelyn Graves Drama Production
Other notable accomplishments include working directly with the Head Start children of Darlington County, Becky’s Box of Puppets and Puppet Love, and Christmas in April . We presented the Black Film Festival. African American Festivals and the Delta Summit. as well.
Our organization has partnered with the Florence Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc in their annual Sickle Cell Walk, Voters Registration Drives, Back to School Supplies with Sororities and Fraternities of our area, Relay for Life, and Senior Citizen Luncheon each Christmas.
